Lost Creek Fungi Hunt

This 12-month public art installation of crochet artwork showcases fungi along the Lost Creek Hiking Trail.

This 6.5 mile public-use hiking trail near Chatfield, MN is part of the Driftless region of SE MN. A total of 15 crochet fungi were mounted on dead wood along the trail from June 2024 to June 2025. Each piece is a lifelike crochet model of a fungi species native to MN.

Hikers were invited to (gently) touch, take photos, and enjoy this peek into the diversity of fungi Minnesota is home to. These essential organisms play a vital role in the life cycle of natural environments, disposing of dead matter and dispersing nutrients through decay.
